MAHAMA BIDS FAREWELL TO UK ENVOY , DISCUSSES ECONOMY, SECURITY AND REGIONAL TIES

President Mahama appreciated Harriet Thompson, the High Commissioner of the UK for her positive contribution throughout her four years of tenure in the country, Ghana. He also made mention of the two countries longtime relationship being so good.

During the farewell Mr. MAHAMA touched on some areas that mutually need assistance. Some of these are the economic partnership and trades. He also suggested that developing countries like Ghana should strategically reposition themselves when it comes to the diminishing nature of traditional assistance.

President Mahama then gave a word of appreciation for the countless backings of the UK in the counter-terrorism. He later emphasized on the commencing cooperation in the intelligence gathering and training. He said: Ghana will cooperate so as to prepare ourselves in the event of any attack.

When it got to the regional aspect, Mr.Mahama updated Madam Harriet Thompson about his recent engagement with the neighboring countries like Mali, BurkinaFaso and Niger aiming to rebuild the trust that once existed and also improved mutual relationship.

He also announced that the upcoming FCOWAS meeting scheduled for Sunday – he said he would table the matters about the Alliance of Sahel States and this will be the first on of its agenda.

Thereafter, Mr Mahama went ahead to touch on economic matters. Reporting the strength of the cedi and to renew investor confidence. He showed his happiness and hoping that by the end of the year, this improvement should make the lives of most Ghanaians earlier in terms of the cost of living.

After all these being said by the President, Madam Harriet Thompson, who served Ghana for four years said she was grateful for the selfless support and assistance Ghanaians gave her. She also gave an acknowledgement to the sponsoring interventions of some British sponsors during her tenure.
